5 Reasons for Joy as a Christian: Part 3

In our series on five reasons to have joy as a Christian, we’ve already covered two: we are part of an unshakeable Kingdom and we have a supreme LORD.

But there’s more. 1 Peter 1:3-4 says,

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you…(1 Peter 1:3-4, NIV)]

Now, in order for an inheritance to be given, someone has to die. Who died to give you your inheritance? Jesus did! Jesus laid himself out on that cross, his torn flesh grinding into the rugged cross, and hung there to die, although he could have gotten down at any time.

And Jesus rose, and he reigns still, and why did he do all this? To secure your inheritance in the Kingdom of God. A third reason in Christ you can have joy is because you have a secure inheritance.

Treasure chest reveals a luminous secret

Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God has given you a secure inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. You can’t outspend it, you can’t overuse it, you can’t overwhelm it.

This is a bank account with no limit, a power supply with no maximum output, a wisdom with no end. No one can take it away because it’s kept in heaven for you. So what is your inheritance?

In Christ, you’ve received every spiritual blessing, and the fruit of the Spirit, and the gifts of the Spirit.

In Christ, you’ve received a new identity in Christ, and forgiveness of your sins, and assurance of your salvation.

In Christ, you’ve received a hope and a future, and the Holy Spirit, and the spirit of adoption in the family of God.

How great is your inheritance! God the Father doesn’t give it grudgingly. He is a loving Father, from whom comes every good and perfect gift. You can be assured that your perfect Father is working for your good. He’s patient, compassionate, and loving beyond measure.

God won’t slap you when you draw near. He’ll pull you into his strong, loving arms, which are iron and velvet at once.

Wow, an unshakeable Kingdom, the supreme LORD, and a secure inheritance. Somebody praise Him!
